Social Media Strategy

Social Media Strategy

This is a tricky moment in my career.
I’m at the point where I am no longer a newbie but not yet 100% established in what I do.
The point where most people give up and go get a ‘proper job’

Well I’m going to make this work or die trying so there’s no turning back for me.

It’s also a tricky moment as I feel the customer’s needs have shifted.
The career path of a photographer today is not what it was before.
That’s not a bad thing as it open up new opportunities and presents new challenges.
One of which is the role of Social Media in the mix.

So much buzz is generated these days by people talking of having a Social Media Strategy and it’s true that you get the most out of it if you go in with a plan.
Well I’m going to share with you my social media strategy.
It goes a little something like this.

Content
Engagement
Content

It’s not exactly rocket science is it?

Sure, let’s cut to the chase.
The idea ultimately is to increase sales by getting hired by people.
But in order to do that I need to increase my exposure and then earn the trust of my potential clients.
I need them to have faith in me, or else what is there to separate you from every other guy with a camera?

It’s about building an audience and then building on those connections and relationships.
After all I’ve yet to be hired by a complete stranger, have you?
There’s always a personal referral in there somewhere.

Actually there’s a lot more to it than sales.
Back in the day I found Myspace really useful for doing music photos.
I could easily connect with bands, promoters, labels, editors or bloggers because everybody had a presence there.
It became a wonderful way for me to surround myself with like minded people, many of who I would have struggled to have had any contact with.
That’s my answer to the question of why?
I want to connect with people who understand and appreciate what I do.
Don’t you?

I have created a facebook business page with their new timeline layout as a showcase/example of how I think business pages should be run.
This will be a mixture of original content, curated content, promotions and some other experiments.
I like the new timeline layout as it no longer looks like my 9 year old nephew made it.
Sorry that’s not true, a facebook page by my nephew would be amazing.
Seriously!

Go check it out.
